Cape Cod Upskirting Suspect Arrested

YARMOUTH, MA — A suspect accused of upskirting multiple women and a 9-year-old girl at a Cape Cod clothing store last month has been arrested. David Wong, 49, of New Bedford, was arrested Thursday at his residence, police said. Wong allegedly used his phone in a covert manner to capture inappropriate images of the women at a Yarmouth clothing store July 15.

Yarmouth police issued a bulletin this week asking the public's help identifying Wong. He was located at his residence Thursday morning following an "intense investigation," police said. (Sign up for free daily newsletters and breaking news alerts from Massachusetts Patch sites.)

"The upskirting occurred several times in the store to different unsuspecting females," Yarmouth police said in a statement. "Surveillance video clearly shows the suspect who was videotaping unsuspecting females with his cellphone, under their skirts throughout the store."

Wong was charged with three counts of illegal video surveillance. Two of the charges are misdemeanors and one is a felony for allegedly recording the 9-year-old girl. He was held on $15,000 bail and his passport was seized following an arraignment in Barnstable District Court.

"The Yarmouth Police Department commends the public for its outstanding support and Detective Eric Nuss, Dispatcher Maria Curtis, Proactive Anti-Crime Unit Officer Christopher Van Ness, Trooper Mike Turgeon of the MSP VFAS Team, New Bedford PD, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s who worked diligently and tirelessly together in making this arrest," Yarmouth police said in a statement.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with additional information about the suspect to contact them at 508-775-0445.

Wong is a self-employed cleaner, police said. Earlier this week, police released these security camera photos they say show Wong in the store during the upskirting incidents:
