Cape Cod Wing Haunt Had Gas Meter Tampered With On Super Bowl Sunday

Police are investigating after DJ's in Hyannis had their gas meter tampered with 15 minutes prior to kickoff.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable police are investigating after, minutes before kickoff on Super Bowl Sunday, they believe someone tampered with the gas meter at one of Cape Cod's favorite haunts for chicken wings.

"The Barnstable Police Department is currently investigating a report of an individual tampering with the natural gas meter that provides service to DJ’s Family Sports Pub," the department said.

"This tampering occurred on 02/12/23 approximately 15 minutes prior to the Superbowl kick-off."

A review of the restaurant’s video surveillance system revealed a male subject exiting a black Dodge Ram and tampering with the meter, causing the restaurant’s kitchen equipment to become "inoperable" until the following morning," police said.

The Dodge Ram was observed to be a quad cab with chrome wheels and a tonneau cover over its bed.

DJ's thanked the department for their help and added that the incident caused safety concerns and stress for staff.

Additionally, the restaurant said, this disruption of business resulted in a loss of income for their employees on one of the busiest days of the year.
