Cape Man Dies In Head-On Collision With Box Truck
An 87-year-old Dennis man died in a head-on collision with a box truck at the intersection of Old Bass River and Mayfield roads
DENNIS, MA — An 87-year-old Dennis man died in a head-on collision between his car and a box truck.
Police said the crash happened just before 8 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Old Bass River and Mayfield roads. Police received several 911 calls and a call from an off-duty officer reporting the crash involved a serious injury.
According to police, the collision happened when the man pulled onto Old Bass River Road from Mayfair Road.

The single occupant of a Mazda Sedan, the elderly man, was trapped in the car and had to be extricated. Emergency officials rushed the man to Barnstable Airport, where he was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. The man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Police have not released the man's identity.

No citations are expected to be issued as a result of the crash, according to police.
Old Bass River Road was closed for four hours while officers from the Cape Cod Regional Crash Reconstruction Team investigated with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police and the Barnstable County Sheriff's office.
