Condo Fire On Cape Cod Displaces 4 Families
Five residents received treatment for smoke inhalation, and a cat needed oxygen to be revived.
DENNIS PORT, MA — A two-alarm fire ravaged a Dennis Port condominium complex Tuesday morning, displacing four families.
Dennis firefighters arrived at the burning condos on Union Wharf Road around 12:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, police said just two of the building's 11 residents were accounted for. Fire Chief Robert Brown told the Boston Globe firefighters searched the two-and-a-half story building before finding the remaining residents sitting in cars down the street.
Five residents received treatment for smoke inhalation, but refused to go to the hospital. Brown said the cat required oxygen to be revived. The American Red Cross helped the four families find temporary housing.

Fire Chief Robert Brown told the Cape Cod Times the fire started in the building's basement and spread through the floors of two of the complex's four units. The other two units sustained smoke damage. Each unit was valued at $110,000 according to the Dennis Assessors' map.
Brown said the fire took several hours to extinguish and was likely caused by a clothes dryer running in the basement.
