Hyannis Man Arrested for Second Time on Drug Charges

A convicted criminal was arrested after allegedly dealing crack cocaine on South Street in Hyannis.

The Street Crimes Unit arrested a convicted drug dealer for allegedly selling crack on the corner of South Street in Hyannis on Friday, according to police.

Police were tipped off that Tony D Johnson, age 28, 209 Main Street, Apt#6, Hyannis may be carrying a handgun while walking around Hyannis.

Johnson is known to local law enforcement and has convictions from both Barnstable Superior and District Courts for crimes of violence, illegal possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm, and distribution of narcotics.

At approximately 9:55 pm, SCU members Patrolman Ted Cronin and Deputy Sheriff Michael Huse observed Johnson in the area of 200 Main Street, Hyannis, police said.  

Johnson appeared to be in the middle of a hand-to-hand narcotics transaction, police said.  Officers encountered Johnson and found he was not armed but was in possession of about 6 grams of “crack” cocaine and packaged for distribution, police said.

Officers arrested Johnson and charged him with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute/subsequent offense. 

If convicted, Johnson would be facing a 5-year to 15-year prison sentence. This is the second time the SCU has arrested Johnson. In October, Johnson was arrested on South Street after he was found in possession of 15 Percocet pills, police said.

Johnson was released after posting $2,500 cash bail. That case is still pending in Barnstable District Court.  He is currently being held at the Barnstable Police Department on a $15,000 cash bail for the new charge, police said.
