Hyannis Man Charged In Robbery At Yarmouth Stop & Shop

HYANNIS, MA — A Hyannis man was arrested after police said he robbed a Stop & Shop grocery store in South Yarmouth last month.

Destiney Mayo, 48, was charged with unarmed robbery, after being arrested on Sept. 2, Yarmouth police said Thursday.

Police said the robbery happened on Aug. 12. Officers were called to the Stop & Shop on Station Avenue. Mayo got away, but store employees gave a description of him, a white man, about 6 feet tall, wearing a mask and sunglasses, police said.

On Aug. 16, police said they identified Mayo as the suspect. Yarmouth Det. Kent and Barnstable Det. Kevin Connolly then saw him in a car in Hyannis on Sept. 2, police said. The officers stopped his car and placed Mayo under arrest.

"The Yarmouth Police Department commends the officers from the town of Yarmouth and Barnstable for their hard work in bringing this case to a successful conclusion," Yarmouth police said in a statement.
