Hyannis Man Charged In Thanksgiving Shooting Held Without Bail
Mark Griswold faces five charges stemming from the Thanksgiving shooting in Hyannis. He recently served five years for gun charges.
HYANNIS, MA — One man charged with shooting his wife on Thanksgiving in Hyannis will be held without bail while he awaits trial.
Mark Griswold, 53, of Hyannis, faces five charges related to the shooting and was found dangerous on all counts, meaning he'll remain in custody. This comes after Griswold was recently released from prison after serving a five-year term for firearm-related charges, officials said.
On Nov. 23 at about 5:37 p.m., Barnstable police received a 911 call reporting gun shots and a person being hit, officials said. When officers arrived they found a victim with gunshot wounds, who was immediately transported to a nearby hospital.

After further investigation, Barnstable police were able to identify Griswold as the shooter.
Griswold is scheduled to appear in the Barnstable District Court on Jan. 4, 2024, for a probable cause hearing, and will appear in the Barnstable Superior Court on Jan. 26, 2024, for a probation surrender hearing related to possession of a firearm charge.

His charges are as follows:
- Firearm-armed assault to murder
- Assault and battery with a firearm
- Carrying a firearm without a license
- Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building
- Assault and battery on a family or household member
In 2017, Griswold was charged with trafficking firearms, unlawful possession of an assault rifle and improper storage of a firearm.
