In 25th Year, Figawi Donates to HYCC

The boat race celebrates its 40th year anniversary too.

Where the Figawi? Well, the 25th annual Figawi Ball will be held at the Resort and Conference Center on Saturday, May 21 and proceeds will be donated to Hyannis Youth and Community Center.

The event precedes the great Cape tradition, the Figawi annual race weekend, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

In celebration of the ball's milestone anniversary, Howard Penn, known affectionately as “Howie Figawi” or “The Silver Fox,” will be recognized for his commitment to Figawi over four decades.

Penn, 79, is one of the origianl founders of the race and a second generation owner of Puritan Clothing. The ball will include a special tribute to him as Honorary Chairman.

"Of all the Cape Cod icons that have made Figawi what it is today, none is more recognizable then Howie Figawi,” said Figawi Ball Chairman Chris Standish in a press release. “He has been the face of Figawi and our charitable ambassador for nearly forty years!"

The ball is a pretty big deal.

"The annual event features dancing to live music, cuisine from several of the Cape’s finest restaurants, a silent auction, a raffle and gaming tables. Entertainment will be provided by The Figawi House Band of Soul Sound Revue, New England’s top rated showband Men In Black, and the Cape Cod Conservatory Jazz Band under the direction of Ty Newcomb. Among the restaurants providing cuisines are Spanky's Famous Figawi Raw Bar, The Paddock, Captain Parker’s, Not Your Average Joe’s, Embargo, The Steak House, The Riverway Lobster House and The Cape Cod Creamery.  Auction items include trips, fabulous works of art, and Patriots and Red Sox tickets," the press release said.

Tickets to the ball are on sale for $75.  The event kicks off at 7 PM on May 21 at The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.Figawi.com, or at Cape Cod Mall or Puritans.

The Figawi Ball is one of the signature fundraising events to benefit Figawi Charities and has raised nearly three million dollars in twenty five years. The primary beneficiary of this year’s event is the Hyannis Youth and Community Center.
