Old King's Highway Historic District Committee Seeks New Member

The committee will have a vacant seat by the end of the year. Here's how interested residents can run for the spot.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable's Old King's Highway Historic District Committee has an upcoming vacancy and is looking for a new member.

The Town of Barnstable’s Old King’s Highway Historic District Committee reviews applications for any change to the exterior of buildings and structures, fences and signs, as well as new construction and demolition.

Additionally, the committee "considers the historical value and significance of existing buildings, and all applications are reviewed for general design, proportion of building elements, texture, materials, color and overall aesthetic appropriateness to the historic integrity of the district, neighborhood and setting."

Meetings occur twice monthly on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The membership will be for a 4-year term. All members must be registered to vote in the Town of Barnstable and reside within the Old King's Highway Historic District, which encompasses all properties located north of the Mid-Cape Highway (Route 6).

For consideration in the election, a nomination paper must be picked up at Town Hall by Friday, Oct. 21. The deadline to have names on that paper certified by the town clerk is Monday, Oct. 24.

Complete nomination papers must be submitted to planning and development by Oct. 28.
