Questions About Hyannis Ferry Changes To Be Tackled
The Steamship Authority is holding information sessions to discuss how a massive upgrade could affect bookings.
HYANNIS, MA — In response to concerns about how a new booking system might affect ferry service at Hyannis and other ports, the Steamship Authority is holding two public information meetings to explain what’s going on.
Changes are in store for operations between Hyannis and Nantucket, as well as Falmouth (Woods Hole) and Martha’s Vineyard.
The sessions will focus on how wait-list and standby reservations may change as part of the True North Initiative, a massive upgrade to the ferry service. The authority contracted last year with an Italian vendor, E-Dea SPA, to overhaul the booking system.

On its website, the Steamship Authority says the initiative will improve policies, workflows and operations.
“It’s everything from paperwork to deck space to special programs. Because the reservation system changes almost everything we do, from tickets to gift cards to freight, changing it is a big deal.”

The sweeping changes have prompted questions from residents.
Some changes in the reservation system will begin this fall, according to the state-chartered agency, officially known as the Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority.
The authority will hold the information sessions Wednesday and Thursday, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. both days, via Zoom.
