The West End Museum explores the psychological toll of urban renewal
projects on the people in-between. Featuring three Old West Enders and a
resident of the New York Streets discussing their experiences with
development projects; the panel will put a human face on the urban
renewal projects in Boston.
We will open the panel with a short 10 minute film: a segment of the
West End Video newsletter filmed in 1995. Psychologist Marc Fried was
filmed a few years previous discussing his ground-breaking academic
study of the effect of Urban Renewal on West End residents. His study
marked the first time psychologist acknowledged that one can grieve for
something intangible as” a sense of place.”
