Belmont To Compete On High School Quiz Show Season 9

Sixteen teams are slated to compete on the upcoming ninth season of WGBH's academic tournament.

BELMONT, MA – Belmont High School is among 16 Massachusetts teams slated to compete on the upcoming season of WGBH's High School Quiz Show. This year's contest consists of schools that received the 16 highest scores at the Super Sunday qualifying event, including two-time defending state champion, Lexington High School. Four schools are set to appear on the show for the first time: Foxborough High School, Mansfield High School, Phillips Academy and South High Community School.

"Each year I look forward to seeing Quiz Show veterans again and to welcoming new participants at the tapings, and this year is no exception. I’ll see you in January!"

WGBH officially announced all 16 schools on Monday. The teams competing for the state title are:

  • Advanced Math & Science Academy (Marlborough, MA)
  • Andover High School
  • Belmont High School
  • Bromfield School (Harvard, MA)
  • Brookline High School
  • Foxborough High School
  • Hingham High School
  • Lexington High School
  • Mansfield High School
  • Natick High School
  • Needham High School
  • Newton North High School
  • Phillips Academy (Andover, MA)
  • South High Community School (Worcester, MA)
  • Thayer Academy (Braintree, MA)
  • Wellesley High School

This year's state champion will compete for the first time in the interstate Invitational, which will include the High School Quiz Show winners from Rhode Island and Maine, as well as the champion of New Hampshire PBS' Granite State Challenge.

High School Quiz Show begins taping at WGBH in January. It will premiere Saturday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. on WGBH 2.

Season 9 is dedicated to the late Mitchell Chester, former Massachusetts Commissioner for Elementary and Secondary Education who was an advocate for celebrating the academic achievements of all high school students and an advisor for High School Quiz Show.
