This year’s One City One Story, a short story contest presented by the Boston Book Festival, is Dumba Chora by Waltham author, Chandreyee Lahiri. Join us on Monday, November 8 at 7pm on Zoom for a discussion of the setting (the Sundarbans in India) and themes in her story, such as shifting social mores around Indian ‘arranged marriages’ and relationship challenges that are universal, along with fellow 1C1S (2013) author Rishi Reddi. Chandreyee Lahiri is from Kolkata, India (via various countries in the Middle East) and has called the Boston area ‘home’ for over 20 years. By day she works to protect the environment as a GIS Specialist. In her free time, she’s an aspiring-writer, StoryTeller and mother to an entertaining 14 year old son. Visit her website here.
Rishi Reddi is the PEN New England award-winning author of “Karma,” the 2013 One City One Story selection. Her latest work is the novel Passage West, a Los Angeles Times “Best California Book of 2020,” and tells the tale of two Punjabi sharecroppers in California, their Mexican sweethearts, Japanese neighbors, and Anglo friends at a time of rising xenophobia during World War I.
