Belmont Train Crash: Woman Seriously Injured After Car Struck by Commuter Rail

UPDATE: A woman was seriously injured as she tried to help the other passengers out of the car, police said.

BELMONT, MA — A woman sustained serious injuries Friday morning after a Fitchburg Line train struck her car in Belmont, according to police.

MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said the woman, 58, and three children were in the car. The woman was attempting to remove the children from the car as the train hit, causing the car to collide with her, he said.

The children in the car were the woman's 11-year-old son, as well as a 10-year-old and 6-year-old. The 6-year-old was still inside when the train hit, according to Sullivan.
