Honoring The Small Gesture That Means So Much
Highway Department's Amedio recognized for taking time to tend to Town's prettiest assets.
Board of Selectmen Chairman Ralph Jones was so taken with an action taken by Department of Public Works employee Anthony Amedio that felt compelled to share the stories with others.
A few weeks ago, Jones said at the board's Monday, Aug. 16 meeting, he heard that Amedio came to Belmont on a Sunday to water roses on the delta across from the police station.
"He came on his own time, without pay, because the roses needed watering and would not have survived another day without it," Jones said. "Someone drove by and complained about the waste of public money."

For his dedication to the beauty of the town, the board presented Amedio with a certificate of recognition.
"We want to thank him, along with the (Belmont) Garden Club, for making this town a better place to live," Jones said.

Members of the Garden Club also thanked Amedio for his going above and beyond the call of duty of keeping the town green and beautiful with a bouquet of "Lovely Fairies" roses picked from the very street delta he came to water on a steamy Sunday several weeks ago.
