Lacrosse Comes Up Short, Baseball Advances
Playoff Friday: Marauders play tough at Medfield and at home.
In one game, Belmont was the victim of an onslaught.
In the other, the Marauders prevented an onslaught from occurring.
Belmont Boys' Lacrosse reversed an initial case of the nerves, going down 5-1, to take three-seed Medfield to the limit, leading the overwhelming favorite home team, 7-6, entering the final quarter of their second round playoff game in the Eastern Division 2 Lacrosse playoffs.

But four goals in the first two minutes of the quarter was too much of a hill to climb for Belmont as they lost, 10-8.
With Medfield keying on Belmont's most productive players, Dane Caracino and All-American Nick Martone, the Marauders relied on three goals from junior Kevin Sainte, a pair from senior co-captain Jasi Kubasek and a single tally from co-captain Wylie Leabo, who came back from a second quarter injury to score the only goal in the fourth.

At Belmont, Vinny Cortina's grand slam in the third and six stellar innings from senior standout Pitcher Micah Goldberg appeared to provide Belmont with the necessary margin of victory, 5-3, verses Beverly as it entered the final inning of their first round North Division 2 playoff game.
But two doubles, a single and a walk saw Beverly come within a single run with the bases loaded and no outs.
But a busted suicide squeeze and two come backers to the pitcher allowed Belmont to prevent a big inning and preserved the win. Next up for Belmont is playing at powerhouse North Andover on Monday, June 7.
More detailed accounts of the games will be in Belmont Patch Saturday.
