Musserian Kicks Off Campaign For House Seat
Resident would bring independent views to fiscal responsibility and spending taxpayers' money.
Lalig Musserian believes the people of Middlesex House District 24 need new leadership for better results.
As an Independent running for the seat against the incumbent, State Rep. William Brownsberger, she said she's not beholden to any party and can do what is best for the taxpayers.
"We are in tough economic times, spending has gone wild and the business climate is uncertain," Musserian said during her campaign kick-off Thursday night, July 29, at Belmont Media Center which she held as an opportunity to meet with friends and constituents and listen to comments, issues or thoughts.

"The Legislature has studied studies but does not do much to help us," she said.
Should she be elected in November to hold the seat, Musserian said she would examine how to best use resources.

"Every dollar has to be spent as wisely as possible," she said. "Our taxpayers are already burdened with concern for their job security, their children's' education and spiraling health costs."
When asked what she thinks is the most important issue facing House District 24, which includes Belmont and sections of Arlington and Cambridge, Musserian said the need for fiscal responsibility.
"We have to move away from talking about (economic problems) and actually do something about it by seeking ways to make sure tax money is being spent efficiently."
She explained her endeavors in public service began when she was 16 years old, having recently moved to this country and living with her family in Watertown.
"I did a lot of volunteer work at our church, particularly with children," Musserian said. From there, she worked at an adult health care center, helping with fundraising.
"I want to do the same thing now but just on a higher level," she said in reference to her volunteer work in the community.
The Center was filled with friends, family and supporters who said Musserian is an extremely vibrant woman who can do anything she sets her mind to accomplishing.
Belmont resident Kate Hansen, who moved to town a year and a-half ago with her husband, is working on Musserian's campaign.
"She's an extremely accomplished person with a compelling personal story," Hansen said of the candidate.
"She has good ideas and will bring a different approach and fresh perspective to government," she said.
