Parent Lecture Series Kick Off with Belmont Savings CEO Talk on College Planning

Bank foundation sponsoring series of parent lectures

The Belmont Savings Bank Foundation announced the sponsorship of a series of parent lectures targeted to parents of middle school and high school students. Presented by the Belmont After School Enrichment Collaborative (BASEC), these lectures will offer parents information on topics such as college, conflicts and anxiety.

The lecture series launches with “The Journey to College” featuring Belmont Savings President and CEO Bob Mahoney. “The Journey to College” will be held on October 27 at Chenery Middle School from 6:30pm - 8pm. Bob Mahoney will be joined by Dr. Laurie Nash, an Independent Educational Consultant, to discuss the college admissions process, including choosing a school and how to increase a child’s chances of getting accepted. Kevin Fudge of American Student Assistance will also be on hand to discuss parents’ financing options through Stafford, PLUS and private loans.

“I am thrilled to be launching this year’s parent series in what I hope will be a meaningful experience about the journey to college,” said Mahoney. “Each year, many students – and their parents – prepare for college without fully understanding the preparation required for college. As a parent myself, I have worked firsthand with Dr. Nash and can attest to the value she provides through her expertise.”
