Watertown Fire Good Samaritan to Reporters: Focus Should Be on Victims, 'Not Me': ICYMI

An off-duty Belmont dispatcher and Watertown police officer rushed into the fire last week and helped an elderly homeowner escape.

BELMONT, MA – An off-duty Belmont dispatcher whose quick thinking saved an elderly homeowner from last week's fire in Watertown told reporters Monday he doesn't want to be part of the story.

In an interview with Fox25, Dave Jones said he's "uncomfortable" with the attention he's received in the days since the fire, given Watertown firefighter Joseph Toscano's death after collapsing at the scene.

"Five children without a father right now and an elderly man without a house so, the focus, I believe, should be on that – not me," Jones told the network. Jones was driving in Watertown when he noticed the fire and rushed inside with a Watertown police officer to rescue the homeowner.
