BEVERLY, MA — Staff at The Cabot in Beverly are mourning Tuesday's drowning death of the theater's lighting director. Joshua Robinson, 23, of Beverly, was pulled from Gravelly Pond in Hamilton around 2 p.m. Tuesday and taken to Beverly Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. In a Facebook post Tuesday, the theater described him as a "bright, talented, young man" who was a "fundamental part of the theater’s success."

"His dedication to the work he did and the spirit he brought to work each day at The Cabot remain an inspiration for all of us who were lucky enough to have known him in the time he was here," the theater said. "As a person, Josh was always kind, always cared for others and always had a smile on his face. He was the kind of person that could lift you up with just his presence."

Hamilton police and firefighters were called to the pond around 2 p.m. Tuesday where they found Robinson floating in 6 feet of water about 35 feet from the shore. Foul play was not suspected in the drowning, Essex County District Attorney spokeswoman Carrie Kimball said.
