Driver Who Hit Two Had Blood Alcohol 3 Times Legal Limit

Stephen Hendricks, 24, of Boxford, had not taken a drug that was supposed to help him stop drinking.

BEVERLY, MA -- The man accused of hitting and seriously injuring two pedestrians in Beverly Thursday night had a blood alcohol content of 0.25, according to prosecutors. Stephen Hendricks, 24, of 94A Lawrence Road in Boxford, had bail set at $7,500 and will be released under certain conditions, including monitoring for drinking, after pleading not guilty to charges of drunken driving causing serious bodily injury, drunken driving to endanger, and failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. An attorney for Hendricks told a judge Friday that he had not taken his monthly injection of Vivitrol, a drug he was using to help him stop drinking.

According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, Rachel Taylor, one of the two women hit by Hendricks, suffered a skull fracture and was unable to speak after the crash. Her mother was also injured as they crossed Cabot Street around 9:30 Thursday. Both women were taken to Beverly Hospital, but Taylor was later transferred to Lahey Hospital in Burlington.
