My Endorsement for Hannah Bowen: A Proven Leader for Beverly & Wenham

My Fellow Beverly Neighbors,

I am writing to enthusiastically endorse Hannah Bowen for Massachusetts State Representative for Beverly and Wenham District 1!

I have long admired Hannah’s calm, understated leadership, her ability to foster collaboration across differing viewpoints, and her unwavering commitment to Beverly’s progress. However, it was during my advocacy for Beverly’s teachers that she truly distinguished herself. When I reached out to our elected officials – including the Mayor, City Council, and School Committee – seeking support for our educators, only a select few engaged in meaningful dialogue. Hannah stood out immediately, responding with thoughtful questions and a sincere desire to understand the challenges facing Beverly schools. She recognized both the impact of the teachers’ contract on students’ learning opportunities and the financial implications for the city.

Hannah’s resolution in support of Beverly’s teachers came at a pivotal moment during the teachers’ strike. While many elected officials remained silent, Hannah changed the conversation and took a stand for the values she believes in. Her resolution not only highlighted the stark contrast in our elected officials' support for public education, but also shifted the tone of the discussion, reinforcing the community’s commitment to its schools. It was a turning point that helped influence and accelerate the resolution of the strike. Her leadership in this moment was not only a catalyst for meaningful change but also a reflection of the thoughtful and proactive leadership our city needs.

Beyond her dedication to public education, Hannah has demonstrated exceptional leadership and integrity. As an Associate Superintendent for Finance and Operations, I deeply value transparency and open communication – both qualities that Hannah consistently embodies. She has worked tirelessly to engage stakeholders, collaborate on solutions, and enact meaningful change. Her efforts to protect Beverly residents during the transmission line project, advocate for increased housing options through accessory dwelling units, and push for greater transparency and accountability in city government all showcase her ability to drive impactful policy. Most importantly, Hannah has consistently championed Beverly’s most vulnerable populations throughout her tenure.

In addition to our email correspondence, I had the opportunity to sit down with Hannah over coffee for an in-depth discussion about her policy priorities and vision for Beverly. I was struck by her thoughtfulness, her deep care for our community, and her honesty. While I had a clear agenda centered on Beverly schools, she approached our discussion with a pragmatic and fiscally responsible perspective that I greatly appreciated. She understands that meaningful change happens incrementally and requires a balanced approach; an essential quality for an effective legislator.

Hannah’s intellectual curiosity, communication skills, and leadership have served her well as Executive Director of a nonprofit and as a transformative force on the Beverly City Council. These same strengths make her exceptionally well-suited to serve in the Massachusetts State House. While Beverly will undoubtedly feel her absence on the City Council, her voice and vision are needed at the state level – where fresh ideas, effective collaboration, and smart legislation can drive real progress.
