• Man charged in apparently random hammer attack in Beverly (boston.com) — A Beverly man has been charged after police say he threw a hammer at a woman walking on a local sidewalk, allegedly striking her in the leg in what appears to be a random attack. He pleaded not guilty to assault and related charges and is being held on $7,500 bail, with GPS monitoring required if released before his next court date in November.
   

• Massachusetts State Police continue search for missing 37-year-old man off Manchester-by-the-Sea - Boston News, Weather, Sports (whdh.com) — A boating accident off Manchester-by-the-Sea has left one Beverly man dead, another hospitalized in critical condition, and a third still missing as of Monday. Beverly's harbormaster helped pull one victim from the water, and the deceased man, a 67-year-old from Beverly, was taken to Beverly Hospital. State Police and local officials continue searching the area using helicopters and sonar-equipped boats.
