South Boston Teen Arrested On Firearm Charges

The apprehension was made in the Dorchester neighborhood, according to police.

BOSTON, MA — A teenager is facing multiple charges after Boston Police recovered a loaded firearm early Monday during a traffic stop in Dorchester.

The 17-year-old from South Boston was arrested at approximately 12:21 a.m. near 6 Michigan Ave. after officers assigned saw a vehicle blocking a driveway while patrolling the area following the conclusion of the Dominican Festival. Officers recognized the four people inside the vehicle as individuals they had seen walking away from police earlier in the night.

Officers spoke with the driver, who reportedly said he did not have a valid driver's license. Police ordered the occupants out of the vehicle one at a time and allegedly found a firearm in the waistband of the 17-year-old, who was sitting in the front passenger seat.

The boy was taken into custody, while the remaining occupants were identified and released from the scene, according to police.

The firearm was determined to be a .22-caliber Taurus loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition.

The teen is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on delinquency charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
