Back Bay Greek Restaurant Making Big Weekend Menu Addition

Fans of this eatery can now enjoy it during an additional mealtime.

BOSTON, MA — A relatively new Back Bay restaurant is expanding its offerings with the launch of weekend brunch later this month.

AVRA Estiatorio, located at 400 Newbury St. within the Lyrik Back Bay development, will begin serving brunch on Saturday, Sept. 26. Brunch will be available Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., approximately five months after the Greek restaurant opened its first Massachusetts location.

The à la carte brunch menu will include French toast with berries and cream cheese frosting, eggs with home fries and bacon, an AVRA omelette with Boursin cheese and baby spinach, a smoked salmon platter and a butter-poached lobster roll. A Bloody Mary cart will also circulate throughout the restaurant. Guests can also choose a three-course prix fixe menu for $41.95, with options including Greek salad, grilled calamari, tuna or salmon tartare, chicken paillard, Mediterranean sea bass and grilled salmon.

"Boston has embraced AVRA so warmly, and guests have been asking for brunch since day one," co-owner Nick Tsoulos said. "We wanted to make sure we had the dinner experience exactly where we wanted it before introducing weekend brunch. Now, especially with the arrival of fall, it feels like the perfect time to bring together everything people love about AVRA and create a new way to experience the restaurant on weekends."

AVRA opened its Back Bay restaurant in April as the company's eighth location and first in New England. The restaurant concept originated in New York City in 2000 and has since expanded to other cities including Beverly Hills, Miami and Dallas. The approximately 250-seat Boston location was designed by Rockwell Group and includes three private dining rooms and an in-house seafood market where whole fish are displayed on ice.

The restaurant specializes in Greek and Mediterranean seafood, including fish such as tsipoura and lavraki, along with lamb chops, steaks, and other dishes. Its menu is influenced by Nafpaktos, the coastal Greek town where Tsoulos grew up and fished with his family. The Boston restaurant occupies the second floor of Lyrik Back Bay, the air-rights development constructed over the Massachusetts Turnpike and MBTA rail lines near Newbury Street and Massachusetts Avenue.
