Boston Comes Out on Top as the Best City for Business Grads
A New Study Ranks Boston Above New York and Atlanta as the Top-Ranked City for MBA Graduates

Based on a new report from Grand Canyon University, Boston is the top-ranked city for business graduates. The study scored and ranked cities based on factors such as number of MBA graduates, business industry employment, and city-living factors like home value and quality of life. Boston scored 41 out of a possible 50 points.
It’s no secret that Boston is a hub of business. The city’s financial district boasts some of the largest brand names in the country like GE and GIllette, as well as financial institutions like State Street and Liberty Mutual. Names like these attract the best and the brightest business minds in the country. Furthermore, the rise of tech companies in Boston is a sure sign that future-focused business grads will make their way to the city.
Interestingly, while Boston clinched the #1 spot overall, Washington, D.C. had the most MBA degree holders and the highest average GMAT score in the country. This may be especially shocking given the number of prestigious business schools based in Boston like Babson, Bentley, MIT, and, of course, Harvard Business School.

The study also revealed that neighboring New Hampshire is the state with the highest growth rates of MBA graduates between 2011 and 2017, suggesting that even more granite state MBA grads might make the move down to Boston to get in on this top ranking! But, hey, if there’s something Bostonians love, it’s a little competition!
So what does this mean for the city of Boston? While the city has always benefited from the intelligence and business talents of its residents, the presence of so many high-paid young professionals has filled the city up. Boston rents are as high as ever, and many young professionals have moved outside the city into Southie and Brighton neighborhoods, driving up rent costs there, reports show. It will be intriguing to see how being a great city for business graduates will shape Boston’s future.
