Boston Scores Fourth in the Northeast for Best Cities for Golfing

Fore! According to a new analysis, Boston is the fourth-best city in the Northeast for golfing, scoring 52.5 out of the 100-point scale.

The analysis gave 50 United States cities scores out of 100 based on a series of weather-related factors, availability of holes and tee times, average golf course ratings, and general quality of life. Boston’s 52 point score may not seem that impressive, and indeed, it ranked behind other Northeastern cities like Newark, NJ, and Philadelphia, PA. But hey, at least Boston scored above New York.

While Boston may have taken a few losses in the scoring process based on things like weather conditions and cost of living, the city does have a plethora of course options for passionate golfers. Some of the top courses in the city include the George Wright course in Hyde Park, a challenging 70-par course that spans over 6,440 yards, and the sprawling Newton Commonwealth Golf Course, which features a Donald Ross design and a skyline view of the city.

But, as any Bostonian golfer knows, traveling outside the city limits is the guarantee to the best golfing Massachusetts has to offer. A trip to Nantucket - and some well-in-advance tee time planning - might award a golfer the chance to play a round at the famous Sankaty Golf Course. Or, for golfers that prefer a quiet game, the Taconic Golf Course way out in the Berkshires offers the possibility to play a round in the most beautiful fall foliage in the country!

In fact, the variety of courses close and far away from the city limits help make Boston an even better golf town. And as for the statistics about bad weather bringing down a city’s best-for-golfers rating. Well...surely Boston’s society of any-weather golfers would be up to showing some warm-weather swingers how a round is really played!
