BOSTON — It may draw as large a crowd as it did two years ago, but women and allies will be taking to the Boston Common once again, for another Boston women's march in solidarity with women and allies across the country and around the world.
March Forward Massachusetts, led by a Steering Committee of leaders from many communities is behind the Boston march this year.
"We march to bring focus and energy to that work. We march for human rights, civil rights, religious freedom, racial justice, economic justice, reproductive justice, climate justice, and workers’ rights to form a union. We march to show our solidarity and shared vision with those who are working every day to create a better world that is more fair and inclusive, and predicated on the dignity of all people. There is no room in our movement or in the world we seek to create for hate speech or bigotry of any kind. We specifically denounce racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, transphobia, gender discrimination, and their unique intersections with all forms of institutionalized oppression."
Although the actual march doesn't start until 12:30 p.m., speeches are scheduled to start at 11 a.m., and organizers encourage folks to arrive at 10 a.m.

The map of the routeon the organizer's website shows folks will start at the Common, head up Charles Street, then turn on Beacon Street, with a left turn to head down Arlington Street.

The march will then head down Commonwealth Avenue, before turning around at Clarendon Street and heading back toward the park via Commonwealth Avenue and Arlington, Boylston, and Charles streets.

The marches come at a watershed moment for women, who sought public office in record numbers in the 2018 midterm elections. Women empowered both by the #MeToo movement, which brought a trove of stories from women who said they have faced sexual assault or harassment, and outrage against President Trump, who famously said in 2005 Access Hollywood tape leaked during the 2016 campaign that he had groped women's genitals — prompting the pink "pussy" hats demonstrators wore in 2017.
