The Bruins could find themselves without yet another defenseman come Game 5. Team stalwart Zdeno Chara left Monday night's Game 4 after taking a puck to the face, leaving his status uncertain for Game 5 Thursday night back in Boston.

The puck broke Chara's jaw, according to multiple reports.

Chara, 42, was on the receiving end of a puck off the stick of Brayden Schenn early in the second period of the Bruins' 4-2 loss in St. Louis. The result was the big Bruins captain laying face down, blood spilling on the ice.

Chara returned to sit on the bench with his teammates for the third period, but he never played. He sported a full face shield.

Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said after the game he wasn't sure if Chara will play Thursday.

If Chara doesn't play, Cassidy could find himself in a real bind. The Bruins are still without defensemen Matt Grzelyck, injured earlier in the series, and Kevan Miller, who was injured earlier in the season.

The Stanley Cup Final is tied 2-2.
