Virtuoso multi-instrumentalists Jerron Paxton and Dennis Lichtman celebrate the roots of American music with an energetic blend of acoustic blues, ragtime, traditional jazz, Tin Pan Alley favorites, and original songs. Their masterful musicianship, rich storytelling, and infectious chemistry create an unforgettable concert honoring the enduring spirit of early American musical traditions.
Jerron Paxton and Dennis Lichtman are world-renowned multi-instrumentalists and vocalists whose formal musical partnership began with a video shoot, Just Cross the River From Queens, at the Louis Armstrong House Museum in 2017. Paxton and Lichtman recently released their first full-length <a href="https://www.dennislichtman.com/albums" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">duo recording</a>. The duo were Artists-In-Residence at NYC’s Symphony Space for the 2024-25 season and have toured the US and internationally together since 2019.
Smithsonian Folkways recording artist Paxton presents Black folk music from nearly all the idioms that entails: stride piano jazz from New Orleans to New York; deep blues on guitar and harmonica; rural music from the beginnings of Black arrival in America played on fiddle and banjo; ragtime; and other turn-of-the-century-music that gives the full breadth of pre-WWII Black music without lecturing, but rather inviting you to enjoy that music as it was given to him. Paxton transports his audiences not to a time, but to a state of mind that allows them to enjoy and internalize Black folk music, as has been the American experience for centuries.
Lichtman is a world-traveling bandleader who is best known for running the famed trad-jazz jam sessions at Mona’s Bar in New York City since 2007, which was described in the Wall Street Journal as “ground zero for an emerging late-night scene of young traditional jazz and swing players.” He is a masterful multi-instrumentalist (clarinet, mandolin, violin, and more) who has toured and recorded with David Byrne, The Lovestruck Balladeers, Pokey LaFarge, Ghost Train Orchestra, Jim Kweskin, and his own projects: The Brain Cloud, Mona’s Hot Four, and his newest all-original album Secret Workshop.
Paxton and Lichtman’s mutual love of the history, stories, and significance behind the music they play is apparent as they romp through an energetic and engaging set of acoustic blues, ragtime, Tin Pan Alley pop songs, 1920s jazz, twin fiddle hoe-downs, and original songs and compositions.<a href="https://eventvesta.com/events/156782/t/tickets" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">View Tickets</a> &amp; More info

SoWa Power Station

Affordable Art Fair is returning to Boston from October 22-25 at the SoWa Power Station in Boston’s Historic South End neighborhood!
Focused on making works from living artists accessible and affordable for collectors, families, and art enthusiasts, 58 local and international galleries and art collectives will bring thousands of artworks to the weekend-long event, all priced between $100 to $12,000.
The Fair offers a vibrant experience featuring local eats available for purchase from Flour Bakery + Cafe, an exhibition showcasing local artists developed in partnership with ShowUp, a Boston-based gallery promoting underrepresented voices, and free collection and purchase advising from art_works. On Sunday, the Fair will host Family Hours, offering kid-friendly activities including story-time, coloring and games by Clover Clubhouse and an early Halloween Trick-or-Treat around the Fair.
Tickets and Cost 
 
Tickets are priced $20 for one-day general admission. Children under the age of 16 enter for free. Family Hours tickets admit up to two adults if accompanied by a child and are priced $30. All Access Passes ($55) includes entry for two to our First Look opening event and unlimited re-entry all weekend. A limited number of Early Bird General Admission Tickets ($15), Family Hours Tickets ($20) are available.

Maple & Ash

On October 22, Maple &amp; Ash will welcome <a href="https://inglenook.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Inglenook</a>to the Superette at the Seaport for an evening of perfect pairings. Established in 1879 in the heart of Napa Valley, Inglenook’s roots are deeply embedded in the rich soils of the Rutherford Bench, a land famed for its exceptional terroir, where climate and soil harmonize to produce grapes of unparalleled quality.
Hosted by Jonathan Tyler, associate winemaker at Inglenook, and Maple &amp; Ash executive chef Jorge Campos, the evening will begin with a reception of passed bites (salmon rillette tart; grilled beet skewers with cotija and salsa macha) paired with Inglenook’s sauvignon blanc, a light and fresh wine but with salinity of a Bordeaux white. Guests will then be seated for the main event, a four-course paired showcase featuring the best of land, sea and vine.
The first course is a seafood bisque brimming with New England lobster, scallops, mussels and striped bass that will be served alongside Inglenook’s Blancaneaux, a blend of three estate-grown white Rhône varieties. The next course pairs ragu di Agnello (braised lamb with vadouvan and radiatori) with Inglenook 1882, a red wine that pays tribute to the year founder Gustave Niebaum produced his first vintage. 
The main course is a wood-fired grilled New York Strip steak with roasted honey patch squash, fine herbs and espagnole matched with the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. The final course pairs Inglenook’s white zinfandel with a “French Silk” dessert of bittersweet chocolate, black currant and diplomat cream. A free two-night showcase exploring Vieques, water, memory, human rights, and environmental justice through film. 
IBA and La CASA welcome the Vieques Film and Human Rights Festival (FCDHV) for Memorias del Agua, a film showcase featuring a selection of works from the festival’s sixth edition. 
Through film, the program explores the connections between water, memory, community, human rights, and environmental justice. Thursday evening will begin with a presentation about the history and mission of FCDHV, followed by screenings of Farmers of the Sea and Water for Life. Friday will feature a selection of experimental works and screenings of La gota que se vuelve río, Querida Isla Nena, and Dulces Labios. Both evenings will conclude with a community discussion. 
Admission is free, and guests may attend one or both evenings. Programming begins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, and Friday, October 23, at La CASA, 85 W. Newton Street in Boston.
