Chick-fil-A Could Be Coming To Boston

Six years after the late Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said he would block the chain from setting up shop in the city, it looks set to open.

BOSTON — After being denied entry to the city by Boston's former mayor, Chick-fil-A is reportedly planning to open in Back Bay. Bisnow first reported the chain is eyeing the Boylston Street building currently home to the Boloco in Copley Square.

This comes six years after the late Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said he would block the chain from setting up shop in Boston after CEO Dan Cathy spoke out against gay marriage in 2012 and made financial contributions to organizations that oppose same-sex marriage.

The chain has since backed away from some of the political statements that had a number of protestors asking for a boycott. Chick-fil-A, which is only open Monday through Saturday decided to open on a Sunday in 2016 to serve food to those helping after the shooting at the Orlando LGBT nightclub the Pulse.

So far, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s office doesn't appear to be taking a stance against the idea of the Atlanta-based chain's proposed move to Boston; a spokesperson told Bisnow it would carefully review any proposal that comes along.

In the meantime, for those just wanting to get their fix, the company’s closest location to Boston is in Dedham.
