BOSTON, MA — A former state trooper has been indicted on a motor vehicle homicide charge over his role in the 2021 death of a motorcyclist in Boston, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.

Kristopher Carr, 26, was an off-duty, probationary trooper when he crashed along I-93 on Oct. 29. Prosecutors said he was under the influence of alcohol, and had leaned over to kiss a woman in the passenger seat when he crash his Ford Explorer into the highway median.

Carr's SUV came to a rest in the highway median. That's when motorcyclist Christopher Zike, 51, of Winthrop, crashed into the SUV and was thrown from the bike. He died later at Boston Medical Center.

"As a member of law enforcement, Kristopher Carr had first-hand knowledge of the consequences that can result from driving drunk. That he chose to ignore those consequences cost Christopher Zike his life," Suffolk County DA Kevin Hayden said in a news release.

Zike, a Pennsylvania native, was a longtime employee at both the Museum of Science and the Boston Children's Museum, according to his obituary. He also worked at the IKEA in Stoughton.
