Jean McGuire Stabbing: Boston Police Seek Tips On Attacker
McGuire, the first Black woman elected to the Boston School Committee, was stabbed last week in Jamaica Plain while walking her dog.

BOSTON, MA — Boston police are asking for help from the public to track down the person who stabbed 91-year-old Boston civil rights leader Jean McGuire in Franklin Park last week.
McGuire, who led METCO in the 1970s and was the first Black woman elected to the Boston School Committee, was stabbed on Oct. 11 around 8 p.m. along a path off Seaver Street while walking her dog. Police found McGuire unconscious with multiple stab wounds.
McGuire was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where she received treatment for non-life threatening wounds, police said. She appeared at a news conference Tuesday, and said she fought the attacker off using self-defense training she had previously taken.

"I've never, not in 91 years, not felt safe walking the streets of Boston day or night, ever," she said. "And now, I will never go up to the park alone again."
Boston police say the attacker may have been wounded and sought medical treatment. The person was likely walking somewhere near Seaver Street between 8 and 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 following the attack.
