Keyon Hurd Hired at Saint Columbkille Partnership School
Skilled Educator Chosen as Assistant Head of School for Loyola Academy, Grades 5-8

In early July, Keyon Hurd, a product of Catholic schools and a math teacher in multiple Boston Public Schools, began as Assistant Head of School, Loyola Academy (grades 5-8) at Saint Columbkille Partnership School. Though grade 5 is not officially part of Loyola Academy, Hurd will work with grade 5 teachers and successfully help students make the transition from elementary to middle school.
Hurd's appointment is the first of its kind for the school, adding to the leadership team of Dr. William Gartside, Head of School, and Katie Lamothe, previously Assistant Head of School and now Assistant Head of School, Pre-K - grade 4. Dr. Gartside’s current role will continue with additional focus on the laboratory school partnership with the Boston College Lynch School of Education.
Hurd comes to Saint Columbkille with more than ten years of education experience, previously working in the Boston Public Schools as both a high school and middle school math teacher. Most recently, he served as the Director of Student Development at Mildred Avenue Middle School in Mattapan.

“We are thrilled to have Keyon on board to lead Loyola Academy,” says Dr. William Gartside, Head of School. “His unique skill set, derived from his extensive experience and leadership as a middle school educator will help build our middle school to the heights we know it can grow.”
Hurd will be in charge of the day-to-day operations of Loyola Academy, working with Dr. Gartside and the middle school teachers to ensure seamless integration and growth. Specifically, he will lead the Loyola Academy teacher team providing support in the areas of curriculum development and instruction. He will be responsible for the development of a positive school culture that is focused on academic rigor. Additionally, he will oversee the Loyola Academy after-school program, and work with the community to bring in various local and corporate partnerships.
