MA Power Outages: 10,000+ In The Dark

Thousands of residents across the state were without power as of 7 p.m.

More than 10,000 across Massachusetts are without power tonight after scattered thunderstorms rolled through the state. The worst of the storms is about over for most areas, but many west and south of Boston are dealing with serious outages.

Severe thunderstorms warnings popped up in various areas around Massachusetts. The storms were largely passing by Nantucket on their way out at around 7 p.m. At least one fire was caused by lightening striking a home in North Attleboro.

Of the towns suffering through the 10,252 outages as of 7 p.m., Seekonk was hit the hardest, with more than half the town without power. National Grid said 3,377 were in the dark. Other Bristol County towns, including Norton and Easton, were also dealing power problems. One of the radars in the National Weather Service's Norton location was knocked offline for some time.
