Massachusetts Weather Forecast: Storm Posing Threat for Monday Commute
It's been a treacherous few days, and officials are warning of wet, heavy snow, slick roads, limited visibility, and high winds.
Winter Storm Orson continued Mother Nature's winter assault on Massachusetts into Monday morning. Temperatures dropped overnight, icing over much of the rain and sleet that fell Sunday. There was also more snow while you slept.
Slick roads and tough visibility are main concerns for the Monday commute. Gov. Charlie Baker implored people to stay off the roads and take public transportation. He also said non-essential government employees can go into work at 11 a.m.
It's been a treacherous past few days. On Sunday, a 60-year-old man in Bedford was struck and killed by a snowplow. On Thursday, a man was fatally struck by a car while helping his son on an icy road. Officials are warning of dangerous travel conditions Monday.

Wet, heavy snow was expected into at least early Monday afternoon. Strong wind gusts and that heavy snow could cause downed tree limbs and more power outages - there were more than 10,000 without power across the North Shore Sunday night and more than 50,000 in the dark on the Cape Thursday. The winter storm warning will be in effect until Monday afternoon for much of Massachusetts. A high wind warning will be in effect along the coast and the Cape.

The heaviest snow is due for Monday morning, expected to stop falling by mid-afternoon. The exact timing and amount is still tough to nail down, forecasters say. Snowfalls rates of 2-4 inches per hour are possible, while wind gusts of more than 50 miles per hour are expected along coastal New England and 40+ mph inland.

This could be the second of three storms in a week's time. Much of Massachusetts got well over a foot of snow Thursday courtesy of Winter Storm Niko, closing hundreds of schools and businesses. It's possible another storm could follow up later this week, though Weather.com says it is still too early to know if that system will develop at all.
