Multiple Bomb Threats In Boston: Police

Boston Police say a threat at the Boston Opera House is confirmed and they're investigating others out of an 'abundance of caution.'

BOSTON — The Boston Opera House downtown received a bomb threat, police confirmed Thursday. But the opera house is not the only target. Police said several other businesses that also reported threats across the city.

The threats appear to be part of a nation-wide email threat scam being sent to businesses requesting bitcoin, according to police.

"There have been multiple emailed bomb threats being sent to corporations throughout the city," said Officer Stephen McNulty who is a spokesperson for the Boston police. Although as of Thursday afternoon only the opera house threat had been confirmed, the police radio indicated there police and fire were responding to several other reports.

"Boston police will be investigating them all just out of an abundance of caution," he said.

This comes as the State Police report emailed bomb threats reported in municipalities across the Commonwealth, including businesses in Cambridge, Hingham and Lowell.
