'Tragedy Beyond Expression': Boy, 14, Killed In Roxbury Shooting

Boston police are searching for the person who opened fire around noon Monday.

ROXBURY, MA — A 14-year-old boy was the victim in a daytime shooting Monday along Washington Street, according to Boston police.

Gunfire broke out just before 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cobden Street north of Egleston Square. The shooting took place behind a building, and Boston police said they found out via a ShotSpotter alert.

The 14-year-old was taken to a local hospital, where he died. A second person under 18 was also wounded, but his injuries were not life-threatening, police said in a news release.

Boston police did not immediately announce any arrests related to the shooting.

"The murder of a 14-year-old is a tragedy beyond expression; an epic loss for family and friends and a grievous blow to our city," Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said Tuesday. "Investigators will do all possible to determine the facts of this horrible event. But this we know: A child is dead due to gunfire on our streets."
