Spot Checks Of Oil Delivery Trucks In Boston

The Inspectional Services Department's weights and measures sealers conduct random spot checks of oil delivery trucks throughout Boston’s Neighborhoods.

Inspectors from the Weights and Measures Division are conducting random spot checks of oil delivery trucks to ensure consumers receive the amount of home oil that they paid for. These inspections ensure oil trucks are delivering the correct amount of fuel from sealed meters and a receipt (ticket) is provided at the time of delivery.

Inspectors ensure the trucks meter is sealed and the intended amount of fuel was delivered certifying the correct amount of fuel has been delivered in accordance with Mass General Law (MGL) c98 s. 42 guaranteeing consumers received a fair and equitable deal. Sealed tank meters are equipped with a security mechanism of lead and wire, which are placed on the device after the metering systems are inspected and tested for accuracy.

Spot checks will be conducted throughout the winter and will end on March 1. Delivery receipts should contain the following information:

• Date of delivery
• Name and address of the company & customer
• Amount delivered
• Price per gallon
• Mechanically printed serial number

Un-sealed devices or tickets containing missing or incorrect information can result in a fine of $375or the truck being taken out of service, or both.
