Stabbed 14 Times At ATM: Homeless Man Arrested In Alleged Assault

A homeless man known to police is being held without bail for at least another week.

BOSTON, MA — A homeless man who prosecutors say stabbed another man 14 times in an ATM vestibule on Harrison Ave. is to remain in jail pending the outcome of a dangerousness hearing, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Lonnie Fitts, 47, was arraigned Monday on a charge of armed assault with intent to murder, an alleged attack that left another man needing emergency surgeries. Fitts was ordered held without bail at least until a hearing Monday.

Boston Police responded Friday around 4:42 a.m. to a report of a stabbing on Harrison Ave. They located a 51-year-old man suffering from "approximately 14 stab wounds to the torso and back," according to a release from Conley's office.

The victim had two emergency surgeries at as transported to Tufts Medical Center.

Police determined two men - one of whom was known to the victim - approached the victim in the ATM vestibule. The man who did not know the victim attacked him.

Fitts, who is known to police, was arrested at the shelter in connection with the assault and an outstanding warrant out of Dorchester Municipal Court charging breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony and vandalizing property.

Fitts was arrested while wearing the same clothing that the suspect in the surveillance footage appeared to be wearing, and police noted blood stains on his clothing.
