34 Years Later, Chief Jenkins Enters Retirement

Friday was Police Chief Russell Jenkins' last day as head of the Braintree Police Department.

BRAINTREE, MA — Over three decades after becoming a police office, Braintree Police Chief Russell Jenkins served his last day as Braintree's top cop Friday.

As of 4 p.m., Jenkins is now in retirement, ending his 34-year career in the profession and four years as the chief of police.

"The Braintree Police Department announces the retirement of Chief Russell Jenkins. Chief Jenkins last tour ended today at 1600 hours completing nearly 34 years of dedicated service to the Town Of Braintree. During his career Chief Jenkins served the police department as a patrolman, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, Deputy Chief and for the past 4 years, Chief of Police. In addition, Chief Jenkins was one of the founding members of the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council," the department wrote on Facebook. "The Braintree Police Department wishes Chief Jenkins and his family good health and happiness in his retirement. Congratulations on a job well done sir and God Bless."

Jenkins sudden retirement came in the wake of the scandal that has hit the department's evidence room. He announced two weeks ago that Oct. 7 would be his last day.

In the interim, former Stoughton Police Chief Paul Shastany will be the head of the department until a permanent chief is found.
