As Summer Approaches, South Shore Plaza Adds New Stores

The mall in Braintree continues to fill out after a large expansion last year.

Following a significant expansion of 's footprint that was completed last year, the mall is filling out with several new stores, including a swimwear shop opening on the verge of summer and the relocated Newbury Comics.

Three of the stores – J'adore, 77kids and Soma Intimates – opened earlier this spring, joining previous additions such as Nordstrom, Target, bebe, Sur La Table and the Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse, which in March.

Swim 'n Sport will open this month and feature designer swimsuits by the likes of Calvin Klein, La Blanca, Vix, Gottex and RL Blue by Ralph Lauren, according to a press release from plaza owner Simon Property Group. The swimwear retailer was founded in 1954 and now has 33 locations across the country.

Armani Exchange, a youthful fashion label by Italian designer Giorgio Armani, is scheduled to open in late July. The store will have, among other products, apparel, accessories, eyewear, watches, jewelry and music.

“South Shore Plaza is eager to have so many new offerings and openings as we enter the summer season,” marketing director Vicki Bartkiewicz said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to another busy summer at the Plaza and I’m sure our shoppers will be pleased with the new stores they find as they visit us through the season.”

Newbury Comics in the shopping center with Bertucci's on Franklin Street and reopened at the plaza earlier this month. Braintree Patch about the store's new fashion offerings, the switch to a two-level format and how changes in the music industry factored into the decision to move.

One of the stores that opened already, J'adore, was founded by Michele Salame, who also has a store in Wakefield, MA. The boutiques sell new and lightly used apparel, accessories and jewelry.

77kids is a branch of American Eagle Outfitters and offers "trendy, high-quality clothing and accessories for kids ages one to 14 and also includes little_77, a line of clothing and accessories for babies zero to 18 months," according to the release.

Soma Intimates features ingerie, loungewear, sleepwear and beauty products. It opened in April.
