Bites Nearby: Ashley’s

In a town that has its fair share of chain restaurants, it is nice to know that there is still room for little dinettes such as Ashley’s. Located in South Braintree Square, Ashley’s has been serving up coffee, eggs, and pancakes for as long as I’ve lived in Braintree, which is going on 20 years now. Like most busy breakfast spots, Ashley’s gets pretty packed on weekend mornings but the service is quick so you don’t usually have to wait too long for a table.

Ashley’s offers an extensive breakfast menu. There are the standard egg, bacon, and toast combos starting at $2.99, with sides of home fries and hash. There's also a rather large selection of omelets, including the Western and Veggie. If poached is more to your liking, you’ll be pleased with Ashley’s selection: Eggs Benedict, Florentine, and Lucia to name just a few. Pancakes, French Toast, Waffles, and Breakfast sandwiches round out the menu.

The Lunch menu offers up your usual standard fare: BLT’s, Egg Salad, and Turkey, as well as Flat Bread sandwiches, Wraps, and those of the Grilled variety, including Tuna Melts, Grilled Cheese & Tomato, and Steak & Cheese. My son and I stopped in for a BLT ($2.99) last week and both the service and sandwich were excellent, it took maybe five minutes from the time we placed our order to its arrival at our table.

For those looking for something a little more filling, Ashley’s also serves up hot dinners, for lunch. Chicken Marsala, American Chop Suey, Chicken Pot Pie, Veal Parmigiana, and Seafood Alfredo are among the choices. The lunch specials also change on a daily basis so you'll never know what you'll find on the menu.

What you might not know is that Ashley’s offers catering services as well. You can order portions that feed 8 – 12 or 16 – 20 individuals of such items as Shrimp Cacciatore, Lasagna, Veal Marsala, Garden Greek and Antipasto salads.

Ashley's is open seven days a week, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
