Black Friday Openings in Braintree, Across Massachusetts, Moved Past Midnight

The changes include Target, Macy's and Best Buy.

After originally scheduling midnight openings between Thanksgiving and Black Friday, retailers in Braintree and across the state have moved back their start times after concerns about conflicting with Massachusetts law.

Target, and in Braintree had all previously scheduled midnight openings, with a planned Harry Potter screening prior to the opening at Best Buy. Judy Tullius, manager of the , previously about midnight openings at Target and Macy's (the Plaza itself will open at 4 a.m.) and other stores inside, including Aeropostale and Ann Taylor, though Tullius did caution that the early openings might draw concerns.

Massachusetts law allows stores to open at midnight on Black Friday, but does not allow employees to work before that time, causing retailers with Bay State locations to re-consider their openings. Target is now scheduled to open at 1 a.m., Macy's at 12:30 p.m. and Best Buy at 1 a.m.

A spokesman for Best Buy said that the retailer decided to push back its openings in Massachusetts, including Braintree, because of the blue law concerns, and also to cancel a for customers waiting in line.

Plaza manager Tullius saidon Tuesday that in addition to Target and Macy's, at least 15 other stores will also open at 12:30 a.m. or 1 a.m.
