Braintree High MCAS Scores Slightly Improve
Find out how 10th graders in Braintree did on the exam.

The 2015 MCAS results are in and Braintree’s scores are a little better than last year’s exam. Below are the results for the 10th-grade tests in math, English, and science.
English: 97 percent of students scored either advanced or proficient on the exam, up 3 percent from last year. This year, 65 percent scored advance compared to 56 percent last year. In proficient, the percentage is down from 38 percent to 32. Only 3 percent scored either failing or needs improvement.
Math: The number of students in the advance and proficient categories is down from 92 percent to 91. While the 69 percent of students in the advance category is up a percentage point, the number of students scoring in the proficient category went down from 24 percent to 2. About 9 percent of students scored needs improvement or warning/failing.

Science: Students scoring advance or proficient is up from 86 percent to 88. Advance students are down from 44 percent to 39 while proficient students are up from 42 to 49. 12 percent of students scored either needs improvement or warning/failing.
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 mandates that every student be proficient in English language arts and math by 2014. In Massachusetts, this proficiency is measured by the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS).

A school must improve in proficiency each year based on adequate yearly progress (AYP). In Massachusetts, AYP is determined by student performance on various parts of the MCAS.
