Braintree Holds Ballot Lottery for 2011 Election
The lottery was held at Town Hall on Thursday night to determine placement on the ballot on Nov. 8.
There are now officially 31 candidates for 22 seats in Braintree's 2011 local election, and each of them now has a position on the ballot after a lottery at established the order on Thursday night.
Joe Powers, who ran the lottery with Board of Registrars Chair Maggi Johnson, also said that a deadline had passed on Thursday evening without any further withdrawals or candidate challenges.
The brief event, which was attended by a few of the candidates or their representatives, was also host to a bit of historic trivia. Every candidate's name was printed on an index card and placed into a spinning wooden box that was built in Worcester and dates back to World War II, when the Braintree Town Clerk also served as a selective service representative and pulled names for the military.
