BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree residents will get a chance to exercise and safely socialize a bit this winter with a new program District 5 Town Councilor Meredith Boericke is running.

At 10 a.m., Saturday, Boericke will host the first of four "Winter Walks" to provide Braintree residents an opportunity to bundle-up, get outside together and get moving.

“Under normal circumstances winter can be isolating, but it is even more so this year," Boericke said. "I wanted to find a safe way for residents to connect with each other. Even with COVID-19 restrictions we can take care of our minds and bodies with some safe and socially-distanced exercise and fresh air. It is my hope to make these cold, dark days a little warmer and brighter for Braintree residents."

The goal of the Winter Walks, Boericke said, is for residents to enjoy some exercise, fresh air, conversation and the company of others; a promotion of both physical and mental well-being.

Event attendees must comply with all current state COVID-19 guidelines, the details of which may be found on Mass.gov. Residents joining Winter Walks must wear a mask and stay 6 feet apart during the walks.

"This will be the first of four Winter Walks that I’ll be hosting, and I’m really looking forward to being able to get some fresh air and meet with the residents of Braintree,” Boericke said. “After nearly a year of living through the everyday struggles of COVID-19, by taking care of ourselves, both mentally and physically, we are also taking good care of our community."
