Braintree Issues Fire Ban, Activates Overnight Watch Patrols

This comes after the local fire department battled brush fires throughout the weekend, and as they've spotted unauthorized fires since.

BRAINTREE, MA — Even after weekend brush fires caused damage and major headaches for firefighters, Braintree officials said they're still responding to unauthorized outdoor fires.

In an alert sent through the town, officials said the fire department is still receiving calls and responding to ongoing fires within the burn area near Skyline Drive and Ross School in east Braintree.

Braintree has activated a fire ban that runs through at least Friday, meaning no outdoor fires or outdoor cooking is allowed as the "dangerous wildfire conditions exist."

Still, officials have responded to unauthorized fires since the weekend fire, they noted.

Those fires, as well as any brush fires that may pop up, will likely be spotted, as acting Fire Chief Freddie Viola has also ordered overnight roaming fire watch patrols.
