Braintree Karate Teacher Faces New Child Rape Charges

BRAINTREE, MA — A Braintree karate instructor faces new rape charges.

Kevin Carmichael, 45, of Franklin, was arrested and arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court. He pleaded not guilty to rape of a child, rape of a child with force, assault to rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under age 14., according to the Patriot Ledger. He is free on $5,000 bail and was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children under 18 aside from his two kids and step-child, and he is not allowed to work with children and he must have no contact with the victim and witnesses.

Details of the case have been impounded and are unavailable to the public.

The charges are the latest for Carmichael, who was charged with indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 in 2013. That charge was later dropped.

Carmichael opened the Braintree branch of the Masters Self Defense Center in 2003, according to its website. The site also says he received a fifth-degree black belt in 2007 and has taught at more than 42 after school programs in Massachusetts.
