Braintree Man Discovered Dead Bodies of Son, Daughter, and Friends in Maine Cabin

Four people died in a cabin in Maine this weekend in an apparent case of carbon monoxide poisoning.

When a Braintree man left town Friday to see his two kids and their friends at a cabin in Maine, he certainly didn’t expect to experience a parent’s worst nightmare after arriving in the small town of Byron.

The man, identified as Braintree resident Mark Wakelin by the Patriot Ledger, discovered the bodies of his two children Brooke Wakelin, 21, of Attleboro and Matthew Wakelin, 18, of Mansfield in a cabin on a campground. Also in the cabin was Brooke’s boyfriend, Keith Norris, 23, of Attleboro and friend Deana Lee Powers, 22, of Mansfield.

According to authorities, the four apparently died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The cabin did not have electricity and the four did not shut off the generator in the basement before going to bed.

Coos Canyon Cabins and Campground owner Judy Boucher said Mark called 911 at her’s niece’s house after discovering the bodies.

The four drove to the cabin on Tuesday to celebrate a graduation and birthday, according to Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant.
